Therese Francalanza

Graduated with Masters Degree in Science

Accounts and Finance Teacher

Therese Francalanza graduated with a Masters degree in Science (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Northampton. 

She has experience working at the Central Bank of Malta as well as with the Customs and Excise Department, and has been teaching accounts and finance for over 30 years to students studying at various levels ranging from beginners to university level. 

Therese has worked at a number of highly-esteemed educational institutions around Malta, and has established Learnkey Training Institute as an ACCA gold approved tuition centre and an ACCA exam centre while also managing the delivery of ACCA lectures at Learnkey Training Institute for a number of years. 

Currently, Therese spends much of her time managing and spearheading a number of Accounting and Finance courses and lecturing on Management.

Mr. Kevin Vassallo

Certified Public Accountant

Kevin is a certified public accountant by profession who holds a post-graduate degree in the science of finance. 

He is currently Head of Treasury at the Malta Development Bank, having previously occupied the post of Director Finance at the MFSA. Prior to that, he was a senior executive at the Central Bank of Malta where he practised in accounting, internal audit, human resources management, portfolio management and risk management. 

He has been lecturing for the past 25 years having started off with the Malta Institute of Accountants and moved on to BPP and subsequently AIM Academy.

Mrs. Margaret Vassallo

Banker and a Certified Public Accountant

Margaret is a banker and a certified public accountant by profession, who holds a post-graduate degree in the science of finance. She has been employed with Bank of Valletta plc for the last 34 years and currently occupies the position of Executive Head within Finance. 

She has been lecturing for the past 28 years, having started off with the Institute of Bankers lecturing accountancy to students reading for a banking degree. She also lectured Corporate Finance and Financial Intermediation for 12 years with St Martins Institute to students sitting for the University of London graduate degree in banking, economics and accountancy. 

She then moved on to AIM Academy, lecturing ACCA subjects F2, F3 and F9, as well as Financial Accounting and Reporting Papers for the ACCA qualification.

Dr. Kira Borg

Doctor of Laws, Master of Arts in Financial Services

Senior Compliance Officer

Dr Kira Borg graduated with a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Malta in 2014 after submitting a thesis entitled ‘A critical analysis of AML/CFT legislation in relation to the banking sector’. Following this, she embarked upon a Master of Arts degree in Financial Services and graduated from the same university in 2017 after submitting a thesis on the implications of having a central beneficial ownership register under Maltese and EU law. 

She began her career working as a senior compliance officer with a branch of an EU-registered credit institution and later worked for the Malta Financial Services Authority as an analyst within the Enforcement Unit (AML/CFT section), gaining vast experience in the field of AML/CFT legislation. 

Dr Borg then moved on to hold a compliance and data protection role with a Malta-licensed gaming company and is currently the Internal Auditor of a fast-paced financial institution licensed in Malta. Her expertise include financial services, company incorporation, data protection and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Steve Vella

Internal Quality Assurance Officer

Steve is a seasoned quality assurance officer within the education domain. With a formal postgraduate background in business and management, together with his EU-related studies, he has contributed to academia from different roles that he held.

He currently leads the Learnkey Institute’s development, implementation and monitoring of QA procedures. Beyond compliance with quality requirements as set out in the local educational statutes and the audits regulating such processes, Steve is a firm believer that quality is the result of strong objectives. With such approach, Steve is consolidating the University's strategic priority of being student-centric through the formulation of regulations and policies in place."

Ms Melissa Caruana

Ms Melissa Caruana

Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Chester.

Management Accountant

Melissa graduated from the University of Malta in 2015 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) Banking and Finance. Following this, she embarked upon a Master of Business Administration degree (M.B.A.) and graduated from the University of Chester (UK) in 2019 with a distinction in her thesis. 

She began her career working in fund administration and pension scheme investments, specialising in portfolio management and risk management. She then moved to hold a senior-level managerial role, overseeing all business's day-to-day financial operations and is now a Group Financial Controller of a major local market player. Apart from lecturing at LearnKey Institute for these last years, Melissa is also pursuing her own studies towards the ACCA qualification.

Engineer and Operations Manager

Charles Muscat is an engineer by profession and currently works as an Operations Manager in a local manufacturing firm.  He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Malta and a Masters of Science in Engineering Design and Manufacture from Loughborough University.  Charles has been working in Operations Management  for the last 20 years and has vast experience in different fields of management including Project, Operations, Human Resources and Marketing.
